The story of DPI


The Story of DPI told by Owner/President Steve Counts

Growing up on a Southwest Missouri dairy farm taught me the importance of hard work and responsibility. I’ve used these lessons in my career and when giving advice to businesses and organizations.

I’ve worked in sales and sales management my entire career, beginning with selling bibles door-to-door to pay my way through college. I have personally built two sales organizations, one for a Fortune 500 Company. I have conducted over 3000 job interviews and trained more than 600 people in sales. I have designed and implemented sales training and marketing campaigns with a focus on results.

I took over the day-to-day operations of a $25 million dollar company that was close to bankruptcy in 2001. At the time of my appointment as CEO, the investors were putting approximately $125,000 a month into the business to keep it from going under. Within 30 days of implementing cost saving strategies the investors were no longer required to put additional cash in the business. That business, Bancsource, Inc., is operating today with $50 million in revenue.

My wife and I purchased Digital Print Ink, a local Springfield company in 2007. DPI has served its loyal customers for over 35 years.  We specialize in helping businesses and organizations grow through targeted communication to existing and prospective clients. DPI Printing saves businesses and organizations thousands of dollars a year through print ordering efficiencies and inventory management processes that are unique to our company. 

I enjoy reading and studying business management and marketing techniques. I am a past member of the Glazer-Kennedy Inner Circle, a national group of business owners and entrepreneurial marketing professionals, and have also worked with CPrint, a national organization of select professional printing companies who meet regularly and undergo annual examination for printing standards. 

What I enjoy most about DPI is how we play a key role in helping growing companies communicate effectively on paper. Print purchasing typically represents around 5% of a business’s expenses. Because of our approach to regular print audits and proper print ordering procedures, we save our clients thousands of dollars annually while helping them maintain their brand integrity with consistent marketing image.
